Total Time 20 minutes mins
- 1 loaf bread homemade, about 12 slices, thicker the better
- 5 large eggs
- 1/4 cup maple syrup
- 1/2 cup milk
- 1 tbsp cinnamon
- 2 tsp vanilla
- 1/4 tsp sea salt
Mix eggs, milk, maple syrup, cinnamon, vanilla, and salt in a bowl or small baking dish.
Place a skillet on the stove and set burner to medium heat. Grease with butter, lard, tallow or avocado oil.
Dip one slice of bread at a time into the egg mixture, let it soak in the eggs for a few seconds before flipping to coat both sides.
Cook for 1-2 minutes on each side or until the eggs are done to your liking. Remove from the stove and repeat with remaining slices.
Serve warm with fruit, sausage, bacon, or even granola, yogurt and jam.
- Cut your slices a little on the thicker side. This recipe is perfect for loaves that are a bit older and need to be used up ASAP.
- Whole milk is our preferred milk for this recipe. You can also use dairy free milk, or add some cream to the mix.
