Homemade bread paired with fresh eggs equals a hearty and delicious breakfast that will leave you fueled for hours. French toast is one of the easiest ways I’ve found to get picky eaters eating eggs. Scrambling some fresh, nutrient dense eggs with pure maple syrup and ground cinnamon makes for a slightly sweet taste your kids will love. This maple cinnamon French toast recipe is on repeat in our home and I hope you all love it, too.

Ingredients for Maple Cinnamon French Toast

- Eggs – those laid by pasture raised hens or those in our own backyard will be absolute nutrient powerhouses. If you don’t have access to high quality eggs, conventionally farmed eggs are okay and still offer many nutrients.
- Bread – we love making these maple cinnamon French toasts the day after we’ve made some bread. Our honey oat bread is one of our favorite for making French toast.
- Maple syrup – pure maple syrup is best. Honey can also be used if that’s what you have just keep in mind babies under 1 year old cannot consume honey.
- Milk – if you have raw milk from grass fed cows… I’m low key jealous. Enjoy it! For the rest of us, milk from the carton is totally fine and much more affordable. Non dairy “milk” can also be used if you can’t have dairy. This almond milk would work great.
- Cinnamon
- Vanilla – use real vanilla extract, never the imitation, it’s not worth it. You can also learn how to make your own vanilla, which is actually very simple (it only takes two ingredients and some patience.)
- Salt – just a pinch of high quality unrefined mineral salt rounds out these homemade French toasts.
How to make french toast
French toast recipes that I’ve had growing up and seen elsewhere all use processed sugar to sweeten the eggs. Although I have such a sweet tooth, we are trying to get away from processed sugar in our families diet. I know that my kids need better than sugar to grow healthy and strong. So, that’s why we decided to try making this French toast with a bit of maple syrup instead and we love it!
This is seriously one of the simplest breakfasts you’ll ever make. Easier than even these maple syrup pancakes! Mix together your eggs, milk, maple syrup, cinnamon, salt, and vanilla. Slice your bread if you haven’t already, I typically get 12-13 slices from one of our homemade loaves.

Once you’ve done that, pull out your skillet and get it preheating over medium heat. We love our cast iron for making french toast.

Then dip each slice into the egg mixture, allowing the bread to really soak in the eggs. Place the soaked bread onto a hot skillet and cook for 1-2 minutes on each side and voila!

Serve with some fruit, sausage, bacon, an extra drizzle of maple syrup. Maybe pair it with some yogurt and jam? The options with this are as limitless as your imagination. It can also be enjoyed simply on its own. This is truly one of our favorite breakfasts. Its quick, easy and so filling.

I hope you all love this naturally sweetened maple cinnamon French toast as much as we do.

Side note… Aren’t these baking dishes the cutest things in the world?? They were the perfect vessel for housing the French toast dredge and finished toasts. Also, and most importantly, they are non toxic!
Anyways,
Happy cooking! 😊
