These quick honey butter burger buns are the perfect recipe to whip together in a pinch. (No waiting for the dough to rise.) Best of all, they are so tasty, super soft, and perfect with your favorite home grilled burger.
2largeeggs, dividedone for dough, one for egg wash
1 1/2tspsea salt
3 1/2 - 4cupsall purpose flourorganic, unbleached
Instructions
Combine warm water, honey, and yeast in a mixing bowl. Allow to sit for 5 minutes or until foamy.
Stir in melted butter, one egg, and sea salt to yeast mixture.
Mix in two cups of flour into the wet ingredients. When fully incorporated add more flour, one cup at a time until the dough forms a cohesive ball and isn't too sticky to work with.
Sprinkle flour onto clean work surface. Turn dough onto the floured surface and knead for 1-2 minutes to form a smooth dough ball.
Divide the dough into twelve equal portions. Shape each portion into a ball and place on a greased or lined baking sheet.
Cover the burger buns with a towel and set aside. Preheat oven to 425F.
Crack an egg into a small bowl and lightly beat it.
Once the oven is done preheating, brush the tops of the burger buns with egg wash. If desired sprinkle the egg washed buns with sesame seeds or cracked black pepper.
Bake for 12-15 minutes or until the buns are golden brown and internal temperature is 190F.
Allow to cool for 5-10 minutes before enjoying :)
Notes
See post for tips on dividing the dough into 12 portions without pulling out a kitchen scale. Store in an airtight container at room temperature for 3-4 days or in the fridge for a week. You could also freeze the burger buns for use at a later date. To reheat, place on baking sheet and cover with aluminum foil. Set oven temperature to about 300F and allow them to defrost/warm up for 15-20 minutes. If reheating from the fridge, 325F for 5 minutes covered will be sufficient.
